Last weekend my son, his wife and two boys visited after being with the boys’ other grandparents for a few days. I encouraged them to go out to dinner to have some time to themselves. The boys and I came up the idea to have the laundry done while they were gone as a surprise for their parents. However, my washer didn’t work (that’s a story for another day). So, the boys and I decided that we could being the laundry to the laundromat, 2 blocks away.
Picture this, a 2-year old in a stroller, a large bag of dirty laundry, a 71/2 yr. old who wants to direct traffic and an 80 yr. old Grammy with 25 quarters in her pocket, heading to the laundromat 2 blocks away. We must have looked like “a sight for sore eyes”! We got to the laundromat only to learn that the large washer, now mind you, this isn’t the jumbo washer is $6.50 and I have $6.25 in my pocket. The very nice but harried attendant lends me the extra quarter. We head home. I fix mac and cheese and then head back to pick up the wet laundry. I thank the very nice attendant, share a Caring Coin and tip with her and the boys, the stroller, the wet laundry and I head home. Once again looking like a “sight for sore eyes”. Did I mention a few cars honked at us along the way?
The parents arrive home as the laundry is drying and the boys and I are having ice cream. A fun night for all! I still laugh as I picture the three of us crossing the street. These are the moments we will always remember…
A little post script…can you imagine a family paying $6.50 just for one load of not even a jumbo load of laundry? I don’t know how people do it…
